In a snow-covered forest clearing one beautiful winter morning, there lived a shy white bunny named Hoppy. He had a special red heart-shaped patch of fur on his chest that made him unique among all the forest animals. Every morning, Hoppy would watch Nutkin, a lovely red squirrel with a white-tipped tail, gathering acorns near the big oak tree.
Hoppy’s heart would flutter whenever he saw Nutkin’s bushy tail swishing as she worked. He wanted to tell her how he felt, but whenever he tried to hop closer, his paws would get all wobbly, and his long ears would droop with nervousness. The morning sunlight sparkled on the fresh snow as Hoppy watched Nutkin from behind a snow-covered pine tree.
“Oh dear,” Hoppy whispered to himself, “how will I ever tell Nutkin that I think she’s the prettiest squirrel in all the forest?”

As Valentine’s Day approached, Hoppy had an idea. He decided to make something special for Nutkin. He hopped along the forest path, carefully collecting bright red berries and the few winter flowers that peeked through the snow. Unknown to him, Nutkin watched curiously from the branches above, her tail swishing with interest.
“What could Hoppy be doing?” Nutkin wondered, as she watched him gather berries in his little basket. She had always thought the shy bunny with the heart-shaped patch was rather sweet, though he never seemed to want to talk to her.
The sun cast long shadows through the trees as Hoppy worked, carefully selecting the prettiest berries and the freshest flowers. His paws moved quickly but gently, making sure not to squish any of his precious findings.

In a special clearing that was naturally shaped like a heart, Hoppy arranged all the berries and flowers he had collected into a beautiful heart pattern. His paws trembled as he placed the last berry, making sure everything was perfect. Just then, he heard soft footsteps in the snow behind him.
“Hoppy?” Nutkin’s voice was gentle. “Did you make this?”
Hoppy turned around, his heart thumping as fast as a drumming woodpecker. “Y-yes,” he stammered, his ears twitching nervously. “I made it for you, Nutkin. Because… because I think you’re the most wonderful squirrel I’ve ever met.”
Nutkin’s bright eyes sparkled like the snow crystals around them. She stepped closer to admire the heart-shaped arrangement, her tail swishing happily.

As the afternoon sun painted the sky in warm golden hues, Hoppy and Nutkin sat together in Nutkin’s cozy tree hollow. They shared acorns and berries while soft snowflakes danced outside their window.
“You know,” Nutkin said, her tail curled happily, “I’ve always noticed your special heart-shaped patch. I think it makes you the most special bunny in the whole forest.”
Hoppy’s ears perked up with joy, and his heart-shaped patch seemed to glow even brighter. From that day on, the shy bunny and the pretty squirrel became the best of friends, sharing many more wonderful moments in their magical winter forest.
As the first stars began to twinkle in the evening sky, they knew this would be a Valentine’s Day they would never forget.
