Tommy was enjoying a quiet afternoon at the park when something caught his eye – a strange blue stone half-buried near the pond’s edge. As he picked it up, it felt warm in his hand and gave off a soft, magical glow. A duck paddling nearby suddenly looked at him with curious eyes.
“I wonder what it’s like to swim all day,” Tommy thought to himself. To his amazement, he heard a clear voice in his head: “It’s quite lovely, actually, especially on sunny days like this!” Tommy jumped back, startled. The voice had come from the duck!

Walking along the park path, still trying to understand what had happened, Tommy noticed a squirrel on a low branch. The blue stone in his pocket began to glow brighter. “Oh, this acorn will be perfect for my collection!” Tommy heard the thought as clearly as if someone had spoken next to him.
“You… you can talk?” Tommy whispered to the squirrel.
“Of course I can’t talk, silly human,” came the reply in his mind, “but somehow you can hear what I’m thinking! This is quite extraordinary!”

As the sun began to set, Tommy heard a distressed thought: “Help! My wing hurts so much!” Following the mental call, he found a small robin huddled under a bush near the playground. The magical stone pulsed with bright blue light.
“Don’t be afraid,” Tommy thought gently. “I can help you.” The bird’s thoughts were scared but hopeful. Tommy carefully followed the robin’s mental instructions, helping it into a more comfortable position and bringing it some water. He stayed with the bird, talking to it through his thoughts, until his parents helped him take it to a wildlife rescue center.

A week later, Tommy sat on his back porch steps, watching the same robin – now fully healed – preparing to take flight from a nearby branch. The blue stone glowed softly beside him.
“Thank you, kind boy,” came the robin’s gentle thought. “You’ve shown that understanding others is the greatest magic of all.”
As the bird flew away, Tommy smiled, knowing his magical stone had given him more than just the ability to hear animals’ thoughts – it had taught him the importance of listening to and helping others, whether they spoke with words or not.
