The morning sun painted Tommy’s garden in beautiful colors as he stepped out with his brand new butterfly net. His eyes sparkled with excitement as he watched the colorful butterflies dancing around the flowers. “Today, I’m going to catch the prettiest butterfly ever!” he declared with his characteristic gap-toothed smile.
The garden was alive with wonder – red roses nodded their heads, yellow daisies winked in the breeze, and a family of butterflies fluttered their rainbow wings in the sunshine. Tommy gripped his blue-handled net tightly, trying to walk as quietly as his squeaky yellow boots would allow.

But catching butterflies wasn’t as easy as Tommy thought! Every time he swung his net, the butterflies seemed to giggle and float just out of reach. “Whoosh!” went the net through the air. “Zoom!” went the butterflies, always a step ahead.
Tommy chased them around the garden, his red t-shirt flashing in the sun. He jumped left – the butterflies went right. He tiptoed forward – they danced backward. He even tried sneaking up on them, but somehow, they always knew he was coming!
“How do they keep knowing?” Tommy wondered aloud, not realizing his yellow boots were squeaking with every step. The butterflies formed a playful circle above his head, almost seeming to tease him with their graceful dance.

Near the garden pond, Tommy spotted the most beautiful butterfly yet – its wings sparkled like rainbow diamonds in the sun. “This is my chance!” he thought, creeping forward with his net raised high.
The butterfly hovered right above the water, its reflection creating a double image on the pond’s surface. Tommy stretched out his net, reaching further and further. “Almost… got it…” he mumbled, standing on his tippy-toes.
Suddenly, his boots began to slip on the wet stones! “Whoa… whoaaaaa!” Tommy wobbled back and forth like a seesaw, his arms spinning like windmill blades. The butterflies watched with interest as he performed his funny dance at the pond’s edge.

Finally, tired from all his chasing, Tommy plopped down on the soft grass, letting his butterfly net fall beside him. “I give up,” he giggled, lying back to watch the clouds. But then, something magical happened.
One by one, the butterflies began to land on him! They perched on his nose, his shoulders, and even on top of his head. Tommy tried his hardest not to giggle as their delicate wings tickled his skin.
“I guess you didn’t want to be caught,” he whispered to his new friends. “Maybe we can just be garden buddies instead?” The butterflies’ wings sparkled in response, and Tommy knew this was much better than catching them in a net. From that day on, he became known as the boy who could make butterflies laugh, and that was his favorite thing to be.
